Hilton Head, S.C. -

Mary Raysor Bellamy, 91, of Hilton Head Island, S. C., and formerly of Knoxville,  passed away on Jan. 16, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle G. Bellamy.

Mary was born in Asheville, N. C., in 1920. Her parents were Cornelius A. and Sara L. Raysor. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women's College with a degree in English, and worked for a time at National City Bank in New York City.

Mary and Earle met while both were in college. They were married during World War II in 1943 at Colorado Springs, Colo., where Earle served with the 10th Mountain Division. After the war, Mary and Earle returned to Knoxville where they resided until 1984 when Mary relocated to Hilton Head following Earle's death. Always active and social, Mary was involved in local activities in both Knoxville and Hilton Head, including the First Federated Club in Knoxville and the Junior League in Hilton Head.  Mary was active throughout her life.  An avid golfer and reader, she also enjoyed tennis and swimming, and was a better than average bridge player. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the First United  Methodist Church (chapel), Knoxville. The service will be followed by a reception at 3 p.m. at Pine Knolls Country Club.

Pat's Notes, January 31, 2013:  Mary's parents were Cornelius Ayer Raysor (whom my grandmother always called "Uncle Nick"),  the son of Rev. Dr. Thomas M. Raysor, and Sara Leard Raysor.  Cornelius's  first wife was cousin Adelle Felder Raysor, daughter of Peter Andrew Raysor and Adelle Felder of Orangeburg, South Carolina.
